As I was well into my fall shooting season, I was also planning my own family portraits. I'd put it off last year - and then never got around to it. The fact is, I know how stressful it is to put together a session. I dreaded it. But after working with the Chambers family for another year, and seeing how effortless Kari always makes it seem, I decided to schedule our session and make the best of it. I tried to simplify outfits to many pieces we already owned, and you'd never know by looking at these photos that Kari often works her magic in just days leading up to the session. Her laid back attitude sets the tone for the session and judging by these results - she nailed it.
Introducing Baby Caroline
A couple of years ago, I was struggling with deciding whether or not my husband and I were finished adding to our family. I'd always pictured myself having a larger family. Four was my number, and then I'd see where to go from there. Now, here I was at "just two", debating on whether or not our family was meant to be larger than a party of 4. Ultimately, we found our family complete.
I've always been confident in my decision, but that doesn't mean I don't love to hold and cuddle sweet little babies. Working with newborns and their families is the best of both worlds - I can get my baby fix but pass the baby back when it comes to diapers, feeding in the middle of the night... all that "other" stuff! How wonderful to get my baby fix, but also see how much my former newborns have grown into such sweet, chatty, beautiful big sisters!
The Chambers Family
The Chambers are familiar faces here on the blog! I've worked with this sweet family since their oldest was less than 3 years old, photographed their youngest when he was days old, and grew up 3 houses down from the Man of the House. Their annual session is one I look forward to every year, much of which is due in part to Kali's gracious feedback. She knows how to make me feel like a million bucks and I love how eager she is to share how she's displayed the photos in her home. I couldn't ask for better clients!
The Savage Family
One of the best aspects of my job is working with clients again and again over the years and watching how their families grow. I've seen a senior in high school through to her wedding. Engaged couples to parents. I met Mark and Shannon for maternity photos back in January of 2014 and this past fall I had the opportunity to photograph their gorgeous family of FOUR.
These boys were so well behaved, and while Shannon is outnumbered, she couldn't be in better company. I absolutely adored every image from this session, but here are just some of my favorites!
A Snowy Winter Session
Every photographer has a bucket list. While I've shot post snow fall many times, I'd never had the opportunity to shoot during a snow storm. A week before Christmas, I finally crossed it off my list! While this dusting was by no means a storm, it fell just enough to blanket the ground and act as a perfect reflector for gorgeous light during this mother daughter session.
You'd think maybe perhaps the cold or the wind would be the reason for cutting a snowy, winter session short. Nope! It's actually the hair. Once the snow saturates and wets the hair, the session is over! Luckily we captured so many gorgeous photos in such a short amount of time.
